Simple Nutrition O'Fallon MO

The Nutrition industry has exploded in recent years with thousands of different vitamins, minerals, supplements, and herbs that are designed to help your body properly perform all of its normal daily activities.  When someone makes the decision to start taking a vitamin or supplement to improve their health, its very easy to become overwhelmed with all of the options out there.  My advice to people who want to be healthier through their diet and supplementation is to KEEP IT SIMPLE!!

In an ideal world, we could eat the right foods and we would get all of the nutrients that we need.  However, because our food has become so depleted of nutrients, we need to supplement to make sure we get the proper building blocks for our bodies.  We still need to eat the right foods and avoid the wrong foods as much as possible.  So, things we should eat are 7-10 servings of fresh fruits and vegetables every day, high quality sources of protein, and drink half of your body weight in ounces (200lb person = 100oz) of clean water every day.  Things we should avoid eating are processed food, grains, breads, pastas, cakes, cookies, candy, and any refined sugar.  This is very basic advice but following it can make a big difference.

Following these recommendations will help but still will not get us all the nutrients we need which is why I do recommend taking vitamins.  The first thing that almost everyone needs is a high quality multivitamin.  Now, all multivitamins are not made the same.  If you're getting the jumbo bottle of multivitamins from walmart for 7 bucks, you're NOT getting high quality.  Talk to your Chiropractor or local nutrition expert to find a high quality product.  The next thing almost everyone needs is omega 3 fatty acids which are in fish oil.  The other extremely important nutrients that most people are deficient in are Magnesium and Vitamin D.  These are in most multivitamins but usually need to be added separately.

These are obviously very simple recommendations and are not meant to cure and specific condition.  For more specific nutrition advice, again, please talk to your Chiropractor or nutrition expert.
